NEET 2020 is scheduled for May 3, 2020, and the results of the same are expected by June 4, 2020. ■ A total of 15,93,452 lakh candidates have applied for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2020. In the year 2019, for the first time, over 15 lakh candidates had registered for the exam.

■ The number was expected to shoot up this year because the medical entrance exam - NEET has been made mandatory for admission to AIIMS and JIPMER. The website this year also witnessed a very heavy rush. A slight 4.87 percent rise has been witnessed in the number of candidates registered this year, increasing the 2019 tally by 74,083 candidates.

The current disruption in the academic calendars throughout the country should not upset your preparation for this important exam. It is time to utilize the extra time at your disposal constructively. Students should devote up to 8 to 10 hours per day to study. They should exhaustively revise Class XI & XII syllabus and take one test daily till the time of actual exam so that their body clock can be tuned as per the actual exam. If you don’t find too many tests then simply attempt previous years’ NEET papers. These papers will be more beneficial and will also help you to get familiar with the exam pattern.

Remember, NEET is a race against time as you have to attempt 180 questions in 180 minutes. What this means is that you have one minute to react as well as solve the question and that too with accuracy. NEET is also a high-scoring exam, so you can’t afford to give up too many questions.

Actually, in NEET zoology, botany, inorganic chemistry & organic chemistry do not involve numerical calculations, so these subjects should be attempted first as most of the problems here are memory or concept or fact-based. After completing this, one can move to physical chemistry followed by physics and devote proper time to calculations and rechecking these so that the is no mistake. Please do not create ego issues with any question. If it’s not working in 60 to 90 sec leave it and review it at the end.

Also remember that for zoology, botany, inorganic chemistry & organic chemistry NCERT books are the Bible. So don’t forget to revise these. At this time you are advised to focus more on Class XI syllabus as most students are cutoff from this due to board exams. Move to the Class XII syllabus once you have revised that of Class XI. The remaining thirty (30) fellowships for the work with an emphasis on Social Sciences like psychology, sociology, home science, statistics anthropology, social work, public health/health economics (agriculture economics will not be considered).

Noting that women officers can sail with the same efficiency as male counterparts, the Supreme Court today held officers of both genders had to be treated equally in granting permanent commission in the Navy.

There couldn’t be gender discrimination in granting permanent commission to Short Service Commission (SSC) women officers citing psychological conditions, once the statutory bar for inducting women in the Navy had been lifted, a Bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said. The order came a month after the top court ordered the government to consider granting permanent commission (PC) to all women officers in the Army.

It today said once the statutory bar was lifted and entry of women officers was allowed in the Navy, male and female officers had to be treated equally in grant of permanent commission.

“All SSC officers in the education, law and logistics cadres who are presently in service shall be considered for the grant of PCs,” it said.

“SSC officers who are found suitable for the grant of PC shall be entitled to all consequential benefits, including arrears of pay, promotions and retirement benefits as and when due,” the Bench said.

“As a one-time measure, all SSC women officers before the High Court and the AFT who are not granted PCs shall be deemed to have completed substantive qualifying service for the grant of pension and shall be entitled to all consequential benefits,” it said.
