1. Bank of Baroda Local Bank Officer Recruitment 2026 – Introduction

Bank of Baroda has announced a fresh recruitment drive for Local Bank Officer (LBO) posts in JMGS-I. The recruitment is particularly relevant for banking professionals who already have officer-level experience in a Scheduled Commercial Bank and want to build their career with Bank of Baroda. According to the recruitment advertisement, 2,482 vacancies are available across multiple States, with candidates required to apply for a State and demonstrate proficiency in its specified local language.

The online registration process begins on 18 August 2026 and the last date for submitting the application and paying the applicable fee is 7 September 2026. Who is this recruitment mainly for?
This is not a typical fresh-graduate banking recruitment. The notification specifically requires at least one year of post-qualification experience as an Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank. Educational Qualification

The minimum educational requirement is a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university or institution. The qualification must be recognised by the Government of India or the relevant regulatory authorities.

Candidates holding CGPA/OGPA instead of conventional percentage marks must convert the grade into percentage according to the applicable university rules and enter the percentage in the application. The notification also explains that the percentage is calculated on the aggregate marks of all subjects and that fractions are ignored. Therefore, for example, 59.99% is treated as below 60%.

Important: Experience in a clerical cadre will not be counted for this recruitment. The Bank may reject an application if the declared job profile does not substantially correspond to the work expected of a Scale-I officer.

Local Language Requirement

Local language proficiency is a central feature of the Local Bank Officer recruitment. Candidates must be able to read, write, speak and understand the language specified for the State they choose.

Candidates shortlisted after the online test may have to qualify the Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT). However, candidates who studied the relevant local language in Class 10 or Class 12 and can produce the required marksheet/certificate may be exempt from appearing in the LPT.

Who Should Not Apply?

The fee remains non-refundable even if the online examination is not conducted or the candidate is not shortlisted for the interview.

5. Bank of Baroda LBO Selection Process 2026

The recruitment is not limited to a single written examination. The Bank has retained flexibility to use multiple assessment methods depending on the requirements of the recruitment process.

Stage 1 Online Examination
Stage 2 LPT, wherever applicable
Stage 3 GD / Personal Interview
Stage 4 Document & Eligibility Verification
Stage 5 Medical Examination
Final Stage Joining & Probation

The Bank may also use psychometric testing, descriptive testing, case studies, multiple interview rounds or other suitable assessment methods if required. The exact process may therefore be modified by the Bank through subsequent official communication.

For GD/PI, the notification specifies minimum qualifying marks of 60% for General category candidates and 55% for reserved category candidates, subject to the Bank's discretion to change the qualifying criteria.

Selection tip: Do not prepare only for the written examination. Since communication, problem-solving ability, sales aptitude, personality and suitability for the Local Bank Officer role may be assessed, banking professionals should also prepare for interview-based questions.

8. Bank of Baroda LBO Exam Pattern and Syllabus 2026

The tentative online test contains four sections. Each section carries 30 questions and 30 marks and receives a separate 30-minute time slot. Therefore, candidates cannot freely move unused time from one section to another.

Section Questions Marks Time Language
English Language 30 30 30 Minutes English
Banking Knowledge 30 30 30 Minutes English + Hindi
General / Economic Awareness 30 30 30 Minutes English + Hindi
Reasoning Ability & Quantitative Aptitude 30 30 30 Minutes English + Hindi
Total 120 120 120 Minutes

English Language

The English Language section is qualifying in nature. Its marks are not counted towards the final merit list. Candidates should nevertheless prepare grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, sentence correction, cloze tests and related banking-exam English concepts so that they can comfortably clear the qualifying requirement.

Banking Knowledge

This section should receive special attention because the recruitment is aimed at experienced banking professionals. Preparation should cover core banking concepts, banking products, RBI-related developments, digital banking, financial inclusion, KYC/AML, banking terminology, loans and advances, deposits, payment systems, risk management and important developments in the banking sector.

General and Economic Awareness

Candidates should revise recent national and international developments along with economic and financial news. Banking and financial-sector current affairs are particularly useful for an officer-level banking recruitment.

For regular preparation, candidates can use the Weekly Current Affairs Quiz available on GovtJobsPortal.in.

Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude

The notification combines Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude into one test. Candidates should focus on logical reasoning, puzzles, seating arrangements, inequalities, syllogism, coding-decoding, data interpretation, arithmetic, simplification, approximation, percentage, ratio, averages, profit and loss, time and work and other standard banking aptitude areas.

Negative Marking: A wrong answer attracts a penalty of 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question. There is no penalty for leaving a question unanswered.

How to Prepare Differently for the LBO Exam

  1. Prioritise banking knowledge: Your professional banking experience can be an advantage if you revise concepts systematically.
  2. Do not ignore current affairs: Focus strongly on banking, economy and financial-sector developments.
  3. Practise section-wise: Each section has its own 30-minute window.
  4. Control guessing: Negative marking makes random attempts risky.
  5. Prepare for the interview: Be ready to explain your current role, banking products, customer handling, credit, business development and banking operations.
  6. Revise your local language: Do not assume that knowing the language informally is enough; reading, writing, speaking and understanding are relevant.

Bank of Baroda Local Bank Officer Salary 2026

The Local Bank Officer post is placed in JMG/S-I. The basic pay scale mentioned in the notification starts at ₹48,480 and progresses through the applicable increments up to ₹85,920. In addition to basic pay, officers are eligible for allowances, benefits, perquisites and other facilities according to applicable banking-sector settlements and Bank policies.

Candidates having one year or more qualifying officer-level experience in a Scheduled Commercial Bank are eligible for one advance increment, subject to the conditions in the notification.

Probation & Service Bond: Selected candidates will undergo a 12-month probation period. The notification also requires selected candidates to execute a service bond. The current bond provision requires three years of service, with the stated compensation provision applying if the candidate leaves before completing the required active service period.

The notification requires uploaded documents to be in PDF format and generally not exceed 500 KB per document. Candidates who need to reduce image file sizes can use our free image compression tool before uploading the required files.

Application warning: The Bank states that important details such as name, category, date of birth, mobile number, email address and examination centre should be entered carefully because changes are not permitted after final submission.

What Does a Bank of Baroda Local Bank Officer Do?

The Local Bank Officer role goes beyond routine branch administration. According to the role description in the notification, the officer may handle customer service, account operations, cash and remittance activities, credit proposals, retail/agriculture/MSME lending, KYC and AML compliance, reporting, staff coordination, business development, customer acquisition and relationship management.

The role also places importance on understanding the local market and using local-language capability to build customer relationships, support financial inclusion and contribute to business growth. This explains why the recruitment specifically links the officer position with State-wise vacancies and local-language proficiency.

9. Conclusion and Disclaimer

Bank of Baroda Local Bank Officer Recruitment 2026 is a significant opportunity for experienced banking professionals because the notification combines a large number of State-wise vacancies with a regular JMGS-I officer position. However, the requirement of one year of post-qualification officer experience means that this recruitment is targeted at a different candidate group from entry-level banking examinations.

Before applying, candidates should verify four things carefully: their age as on 1 August 2026, graduation status, qualifying officer-level banking experience and local language eligibility for the selected State. Candidates should also remember that only one State can be selected and multiple applications can result in forfeiture of fees for the additional applications.
