NEET 2020 is scheduled for May 3, 2020, and the results of the same are expected by June 4, 2020. NEET 2020 is very important as this year the exams of AIIMS & JIPMER have been abolished and the admission to these institutes will also be via NEET 2020. ■ A total of 15,93,452 lakh candidates have applied for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2020. In the year 2019, for the first time, over 15 lakh candidates had registered for the exam.

■ The number was expected to shoot up this year because the medical entrance exam - NEET has been made mandatory for admission to AIIMS and JIPMER. The current disruption in the academic calendars throughout the country should not upset your preparation for this important exam. They should exhaustively revise Class XI & XII syllabus and take one test daily till the time of actual exam so that their body clock can be tuned as per the actual exam. Noting that women officers can sail with the same efficiency as male counterparts, the Supreme Court today held officers of both genders had to be treated equally in granting permanent commission in the Navy.

There couldn’t be gender discrimination in granting permanent commission to Short Service Commission (SSC) women officers citing psychological conditions, once the statutory bar for inducting women in the Navy had been lifted, a Bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said. The order came a month after the top court ordered the government to consider granting permanent commission (PC) to all women officers in the Army.

It today said once the statutory bar was lifted and entry of women officers was allowed in the Navy, male and female officers had to be treated equally in grant of permanent commission.

“All SSC officers in the education, law and logistics cadres who are presently in service shall be considered for the grant of PCs,” it said.

“SSC officers who are found suitable for the grant of PC shall be entitled to all consequential benefits, including arrears of pay, promotions and retirement benefits as and when due,” the Bench said.

“As a one-time measure, all SSC women officers before the High Court and the AFT who are not granted PCs shall be deemed to have completed substantive qualifying service for the grant of pension and shall be entitled to all consequential benefits,” it said.

New Delhi: UGC Department tells Higher education intuitions to fill up 3 Lakh Vacancies in the upcoming 6  Months. We come to know about this news from the most popular newspaper of India known as “The Times of India”.  

The 6,100 teaching positions in central universities, including 4,000 from Delhi University, vacant since 2009 are likely to be filled up by November 2019.

There is a total of 3 lakh vacancies in government-run higher education institutions. The University Grants Commission issued guidelines on Tuesday asking the institutions to identify vacancies within 15 days and complete the process in 180 days. Great news for the applicants who want to pursue their career in the teaching profession.

Higher education institutions have been asked to ensure that all vacant posts, along with reservations details, are uploaded on the online portal.

The direction, issued by UGC secretary Rajnish Jain, asked all universities, colleges, and institutions deemed to be universities to “adhere to the guidelines in letter and spirit.” As per the guidelines, identification of vacancies, permission from competent authorities to fill them, and their advertisement should be done in the next 60 days. The Commission has asked the universities/ colleges/ institutions to conduct the interviews by October 2019, and get required approval and issue appointment letters by November 2019.

Higher education institutions have been asked to ‘ensure that all vacant posts, along with reservations details, are uploaded on the online portal, www. Nherc.in’ “The monitoring of the process would be done by MHRD and UGC through this portal,” said official. According to sources, MHRD has launched a portal to monitor the process.

A senior government official said the matter was decided during the first review meeting of higher education taken by new HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Monday.

Joblessness Rises in the Country with higher Education Level - Latest Survey 2018-19

It’s now official: Joblessness rises with education level

New Delhi: Only 2.1% of illiterate urban men were unemployed in 2017-18, but 9.2% of men with at least secondary education didn’t have a job. The gap was wider among urban women—0.8% of those uneducated were jobless while 20% women with secondary or higher education were unemployed.

The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Friday, shows the unemployment rate (% of labour force without a job) rising by up to 4 times between urban women who have only middle- school education and those educated up to secondary-school or more (see table). Unemployment in rural areas shows a similar pattern, though the degree of skewness is less.

The unemployment rate didn’t rise only with education level, it has also risen over time. The NSO’s release also provides unemployment data for 2004- 05, 2009-10 and 2011-12, adding a caution that past data should not be compared to 2017-18 figures because of several methodological changes introduced in the latest round of the survey.

Even if exact figures are not to be compared across the four years, the broad trend across time is of rise in joblessness with level of education. “It’s not a surprise. We have known of the rising phenomenon of educated unemployment for some time. It’s just an official confirmation,” Pronab Sen, former chief statistician of India, said.

Mahesh Vyas, CEO of Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, says, “A generation ago, it was inconceivable to get a job in the organised sectors without a graduation degree. Today, the minimum education required to get a job in the organised sectors is much lower and is dropping.” CMIE has been conducting monthly job surveys since a few years.

The PLFS report has defined educated people as those who have attained an educational level of secondary and above. The study among the educated is restricted to people of the age of 15 years and above. Some experts believe 15 may be too young an age to check for employment status, especially in urban areas. “It is possible that the unemployment rate should be higher in younger age brackets as a typical educated urban youth may not even start working before 23 to 24 years—until he or she completes postgraduation,” says Soumya Kanti Ghosh, group chief economic adviser at State Bank of India. For the survey, people aged between 15 and 29 years were considered as youths.

NEET Score To Be Valid For 3 Years - Good News for Medical Aspirants

 New rule will help students aspiring to study medicine in foreign universities as the scorecard will remain applicable for three years.

After making National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory for students aiming to pursue undergraduate medicine courses in foreign universities, Medical Council of India (MCI) has now put a three-year cap on the validity of NEET score.

“The result of NEET shall be valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of result,” states the official circular issued by MCI. This will grant students more time to prepare and finalise an international university.

“This will entitle a candidate to pursue MBBS or equivalent medical course including pre-medical or language course, if any, followed by MBBS or equivalent medical course,” the statement further adds.

“The average admission process takes 6-12 months to get through in most institutes abroad. Sometimes managing finance and visa procedures also take time. For instance, if a student clears NEET this year but receives admission confirmation in a foreign university next year, there is ambiguity among students regarding eligibility with respect to NEET scores,” says VK Paul, chairman of MCI and member of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog).

“In the absence of this rule, students might have to go through the trouble of taking NEET all over again,” he says. Ease of admission, says Paul, is the prime focus of the decision.

“MCI wanted to address the issue with a pragmatic approach and hence, we have kept the limit of three years as the standard and format of NEET can change with time,” he adds. This rule, says Paul, will also address the issue of mismatch between the Indian academic sessions and admission cycles of foreign universities. “Unlike India, most of the international universities function on a semester basis and have admission intake twice a year. This will prevent students missing out on their admissions abroad,” he adds.

The eligibility criteria and other features of the NAHI Internship scheme are as under:

(a) Currently studying in the final year or pre-final year/semester of their course.

(c) Can apply for NHAI internship only once during one’s academic career.

Other Features Related to this NHAI Internship Scheme 2019:

(a) The interns will be granted a stipend of Rs.5,000/- per month and the duration of internship shall be for a maximum period of 02 (two) months. The months of internship for the Academic Year 2019-20 (1st July 2019 – 30th June 2020) will be decided by NHAI.

(b) The selected applicant can be deployed at any place of work of NHAI (HQs/Regional Office/Project Implementation Unit) scattered all over the country.

(c) As the number of seats are limited, selection will be on ‘first-come, first served’ basis.

(d) Application can be filled and submitted by the concerned College/University/Institute. The “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) in the attached proforma needs to be uploaded while filling/submitting the application form.

(e) At the time of joining, selected applicant shall be required to produce original certificates, ID proof and a letter from their Supervisor/Head of Department/Principal, indicating their status in the institution.

New Delhi, February 11, 2019:  The Centre has admitted that it is not granting any relaxation in age and attempts in competitive exams under the newly introduced quota for the economically weaker sections (EWS) of the general category, leaving lakhs of job aspirants in dismay. The supposed EWS beneficiaries see it as nothing more than a “stunt” of the Narendra Modi government ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

They have initiated a social media campaign “#EWSJUMLA” demanding the upper age bar be raised to 35 years and nine attempts be provided in the Central government exams, including the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil service, on a par with the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Ever since the 10 per cent reservation for financially disadvantaged of the general category was announced last month came into effect on January 14, the beneficiaries concerned have been apprehensive.

EWS job aspirants are demanding upper age bar be raised to 35 years and nine attempts be provided for central govt examinations

Their concerns got credence on Feb 6 with the Department of Personnel and Training’s reply to a civil service aspirant’s grievance seeking clarification on the benefits under the EWS, clearly stating that it is not considering giving “relaxation in age and number of attempts” to EWS candidates under the new reservation policy. 

The UPSC provides nine attempts to OBCs till 35 years and no bar or about 16 attempts from minimum allowed 22 years to 37 years to SC/ST candidates in civil service exams.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a premier examination for graduate engineers who are aiming to secure a job in the PSUs or proceed for higher studies in IITs/ NITs, etc. These career defining goals of each aspirant are achieved with rigorous preparation and practice for more than 100 days. The GATE exam pattern comprises 65 questions and is divided into two sections — general aptitude (GA), which includes 10 questions and technical section, which has 55 questions.

The technical section has about 20 questions in NAT format, while the remaining are MCQs. In all, candidates have 3 hours to answer the exam. In the GA section, question one to question five carry one mark, while question six to question 10 carry two marks. In the technical section, question one to question 25 carry one mark while question 26 to question 55 carry two marks. Negative marking for MCQ is 0.33 for one-mark questions and 0.66 for two marks questions. NAT questions do not have negative marking. Candidates should follow their desired method of attempting the question paper. Preparation for GATE is considered to be complete only once the exam is taken.

MAKE THE RIGHT ATTEMPT

Here are two ways to attempt the GATE exam and to maximize your score:

Common method

■ Solve the entire paper in one or two scans.

■ The procedure is: Click on each question, read the complete question, understand the question and answer it in the first attempt (without any guesses).

■ Always solve easy questions in minimum time in a single go.

■ Hard or lengthy questions can be kept for the second scan of the paper.

■ Answering any question should not take more than four to six minutes.

■ All the unsolved and reviewed questions must be attempted only in the second scan. 

Alternative method

■ Candidates are provided with a notepad, which is used for attempting and solving questions in GATE.

■ Candidates may treat this as an offline exam, where they can solve questions and answer them on the notepad with options.

■ After 100 or 120 minutes, candidates can start marking the answers on the online system in a single flow.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE

■ GATE exam includes more than 20 NAT questions, which do not have any options. So, there is always an uncertainty about the correct answer. Therefore, a candidate should spend more time on these questions, only if she is absolutely sure about the answers. Else, one can skip the questions and come back later.

■ Your aim should be to attempt more than 50 questions, which you are confident about.

■ Restrict your guesswork to a maximum of two-three questions only if you are able to eliminate two options in an MCQ.

■ You may guess the answer for NAT as these do not carry negative marks. Choice of section to attempt first: GA or technical section.

■ Generally, candidates have a tendency to begin from the very first question, therefore it is advised to first attempt GA section and secure at-least 10-12 marks from this section.

■ Also, the candidate can then focus on technical questions till the last second of the exam.

■ If a candidate is confident about technical section, she can proceed with it first, followed by the GA section.
